Neighbourhood Profile: Canyon Heights

Canyon Heights embodies the best of what North Vancouver has to offer: mountain views, trails & water, high caliber schools, and friendly neighbourhoods with family homes. Bound by the Capilano River Regional Park to the West, Canyon Heights is home to the Cleveland Dam and Capilano Salmon Hatchery.

The Capilano Valley and Grand Canyon Suspension Bridge (later Cleveland Dam) were one of North Vancouver’s early tourist attractions. Rich in wildlife, forests, and mountain scenery, it attracted hunters, fishermen, hikers and businessmen who wanted to “get away from it all”. The Grand Canyon Suspension Bridge was removed in 1951 when the Dam was built.

Today families enjoy summer picnics at the regional park, and leisurely walks with their dogs across the dam and into the wonderful trail system leading to West Vancouver. Tourists flock to take pictures in front of “The Lions”, twin mountains who rise behind the dam and appear as two lions at rest. Across the street from the park is Capilano Heights Chinese Food restaurant – a local favourite! There is also small corner plaza with 2 convenience stores, a pizza place and great sushi restaurant, Sushi Mori.

Canyon Heights is renowned for its schools. Cleveland & Canyon Heights Elementary schools are both all located in this neighbourhood and feed into Handsworth Secondary School, one of the most sought after schools on the North Shore.

There is a wide variety of homes in this area. There are many subdivided 33′ lots on Montroyal Blvd, Canyon Blvd, Clements Ave, and Prospect Ave making home ownership in this area more affordable. At its most Northernmost point Canyon Heights borders the base of Grouse Mountain and features West Coast Contemporary homes. Breathtaking views to Vancouver and West to Vancouver Island are enjoyed by many home owners in this neighbourhood. Canyon Heights is home to great, sought after schools including high ranking Handsworth Secondary School.
