Neighbourhood Profile: Edgemont Village
“Edgemont Village” is a lovely outdoor shopping district with over 75 shops & services including Team Clarke’s office. Edgemont Village is unique among shopping experiences. Storekeepers know the names of their customers; parents and children stroll the sidewalks enjoying the ever-changing window displays; and benches invite one and all to sit and rest a while with a latte or ice cream cone, tucked in beside one of the many beautiful plantings of flowers and foliage. From the butcher to the baker and everything in between the village is a one-stop shop for many local residents.
Many buyers request homes that are “walking distance to the Village”, a demand which has made property prices in the Village vicinity soar. Although many realtors advertise that properties are located in “Edgemont Village” the real estate board does not identify this as a region. Edgemont Village is comprised of the two real estate areas known as Capilano and Capilano Highlands.
Capilano Highlands is a charming community and home to some of the most expensive real estate in North Vancouver. Developed in the late 1940’s, today streets are a combination of original 1950’s ranchers (one level, non basement homes), renovated homes and most recently large (4,000-5,500 square foot) craftsman homes.
Capilano is located beside the Capilano River which separates North Vancouver and West Vancouver. The area is small in size but growing in popularity as the demand to be close to Edgemont Village increases. Many new homes are being built along Paisley Road and its adjoining cul-de-sacs. Residents enjoy one of the newest and nicest children’s playgrounds in the area at Murdo Fraser Park which also features tennis courts, a duck pond and trail that leads up to Edgemont Village.

Library:
Located in the heart of Edgemont Village, the recently renovated Capilano Branch Library is a cornerstone of its community. The spacious new design features reading area, an enhanced children’s section on the main floor, a new Teen area on the second floor, a quiet study room, automated check-outs, public computer terminals, plus a great selection of books, music, movies and much more. Throughout the year they offer storytimes and events for children as well as computer training and other exciting programs for adults.
Recreation:
Capilano Suspension Bridge crosses 230 feet above Capilano River to a West Coast rainforest and Treetops Adventure, a series of elevated suspension bridges, some reaching 100 feet above the forest floor. The towering evergreens, cedar-scented air and stunning canyon views offer an intimate experience with nature minutes from Edgemont Village. www.capbridge.com
The Suspension Bridge’s latest addition is the breathtaking Cliff Walk: this heart-stopping cliffside journey takes you through rainforest vegetation on a series of unobtrusive cantilevered and suspended walkways jutting out from the granite cliff face above Capilano River to previously unexplored areas of the park. Not for the faint of heart, it is high and narrow and, in some sections, glass (very strong glass) is all that separates guests from the canyon far below.
Murdo Frazer Golf Course is located in beautiful North Vancouver. The park like setting within the north shore mountains offers picturesque surroundings like no other Pitch and Putt course in Vancouver.
Restaurants:
A true Edgemont Village gem – La Galleria Fine Foods is a deli that offers fresh meals like lasagne, cannelloni, homemade soups, tomato and meat sauce and stocks. They also make amazing sandwiches — popular all over Vancouver — and for this, won the Readers’ Choice Award on the North Shore 7 years in a row. You will find a great choice of salads prepared each day on the premises. On their shelves, you will find Italian pasta, oil, vinegar and sweets.
BjornBar Bakery is a classy bakery specializing in classic desserts bars. The bakery features 30+ flavours of bars to choose from; breakfast, lunch and drink offerings and shelves of take home gifting items all in one cozy café.
